WORKSHOP: New Definitions of "Patient Engagement" LIMITED

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

Patient engagement has been called the “blockbuster drug of the century.” The problem is that nobody can agree on what this actually means.

Over time, “patient engagement” has been used to sell products and software, inspire healthy behavior change, promote technology advancement in healthcare institutions, strategize ways to meet federally mandated meaningful use requirements, and more.

It can be an empty term, a loaded term, a vague term — and it can even be a pejorative when it is used punish patients for their perceived “lack” of engagement. We can do better, and we believe that the HXR Conference provides a unique forum in which we can explore new ways of thinking about patient engagement.

In this workshop, the patient-designer-facilitators will lead the participants through activities intended to:
  • create a more nuanced definition of “engagement”;
  • envision new tools, models, and behaviors to support a range of “engagements” in healthcare;
  • and, develop a recommended set of words and guidelines for talking about this topic with different audiences.
